Vancouver Reds's Travis Oakley couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 9th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for NEWELL´S OLD BOYS. Blake Vogt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jairo Formerio in the 10th minute of play. Amancio Magdaleno took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Enrique Malone, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jairo Formerio in the 19th minute of play forced Vancouver Reds's goalkeeper Blake Vogt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rene Bernabel kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. After some careless play in the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS defense, Travis Oakley kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Amancio Magdaleno. The NEWELL´S OLD BOYS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Amancio Magdaleno should have stopped the shot. Vancouver Reds's Blake Vogt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Apolo Richie in the 33rd minute of play. When Geoffrey Roach fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vancouver Reds's protests and gave Geoffrey Roach a yellow card for diving instead. After 35 played minutes Vancouver Reds got a freekick which was hit by Geoffrey Roach. Artemio Goiz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Blake Vogt having to make a save. In the 44th match minute, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Baltasar Rios to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Marshall Valenzuela managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vancouver Reds's supporters rose to their feet, but Marshall Valenzuela was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amancio Magdaleno breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
