Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luisão Sabóia to make the kick off. With a little luck, AIF's Edgar Brenner got control of the ball when Edson Salgado tried to sneak it across the goal line. 52 minutes into the game, Christer Strömbom was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AIF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ibirama Futebol Clube the free kick. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind AIF's goalkeeper Edgar Brenner, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
