Spectators: 7443 (Terracing: 5583, Seating: 1712, VIP seats: 148) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Orçun Baloğlu got the match started through his kick off. After 6 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Buğra İlkut. In the 8th minute Orçun Baloğlu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Rânceanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 13 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Mehmet Şefik Balcan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Nisporeanu. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Nisporeanu got free with Mehmet Şefik Balcan in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Newells Old Boys's Mehmet Şefik Balcan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Liviu Mușătescu in the 17th minute of play. Mehmet Şefik Balcan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Andrei Vârjean in the 20th minute. Andrei Vârjean took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mehmet Şefik Balcan. Mehmet Şefik Balcan dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Newells Old Boys's Alkın Gökekin got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 32 minutes into the game, Newells Old Boys's Orçun Baloğlu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gigel Rânceanu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Mehmet Şefik Balcan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Liviu Mușătescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liviu Mușătescu in the 41st minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Mehmet Şefik Balcan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mehmet Şefik Balcan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Liviu Mușătescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 45th match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alkın Gökekin to maneuver through the defense. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave Buğra İlkut a yellow card for diving instead. 80 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's goal looked a bit too open when Andrei Vârjean came free, but Mehmet Şefik Balcan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mehmet Şefik Balcan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andrei Vârjean in the 93rd minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Fotbal Club Vaslui players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
