The supporters of FC Dundee booed when VfL Wolfsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bengt-Arne Löfskog didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 16 minutes, Hristo Botev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Dundee's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hristo Botev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sven Seitse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evert Wennerquist having to interfere. Hristo Botev might have been able to make a better finish in the 22nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Evert Wennerquist. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hristo Botev ran back to his position shaking his head. VfL Wolfsburg's defense didn't have a chance, in the 22nd minute, when Pogi Hanson scored to the left of an out of position Evert Wennerquist, making the score, 2-0. 3-0 became the score in the 25th minute when Sven Seitse elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 29th minute, Hristo Botev left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FC Dundee fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Evert Wennerquist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sven Seitse, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rafael Cacciatore hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Evert Wennerquist was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Sten Aruväli came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the FC Dundee fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sten Aruväli couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, VfL Wolfsburg's Torsten Salqvist got a free kick in the 42nd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven Seitse in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Evert Wennerquist saved VfL Wolfsburg from getting behind. In the 47th minute, Allan Loss hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Björn Ugla was the one to do the kick off. Kim Bergsten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evert Wennerquist having to interfere. Evert Wennerquist came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Dundee's Pogi Hanson. But to his dismay, Pogi Hanson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 7-0. Evert Wennerquist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sven Seitse in the 60th minute of the match. VfL Wolfsburg's Evert Wennerquist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven Seitse in the 63rd minute of play. After some careless play in the VfL Wolfsburg defense, Sven Seitse kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Evert Wennerquist. The VfL Wolfsburg fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Evert Wennerquist should have stopped the shot. In the 90th minute, Hristo Botev ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Evert Wennerquist was frozen by the shot and now it was 11-0. Evert Wennerquist didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hristo Botev went, in the 93rd minute, to the upper right corner, 12-0 was the resulting score. If Pogi Hanson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
