The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Serafim Simão to strike the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Palestra do Interior defense, Sten Bolander kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Antônio Carlos Cavalcante. The Palestra do Interior fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Antônio Carlos Cavalcante should have stopped the shot. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jimmy Linquist, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Oldham Athletic were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
