An unexpectedly hard shot by Yuri Cordeiro in the 13th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Aloísio Vargas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 16 minutes into the match, Maxaranguape - FSCMZ's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Abreu came free, but Júnior Vergílio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marco Secco received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Aloísio Vargas came out and tried to block the shot, but Marco Secco slotted it home off the left post making it 2-2 in the 46th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Yuri Cordeiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 55 played minutes Maxaranguape - FSCMZ got a freekick which was hit by Simão Zanette. Júnior Vergílio didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 56th minute, which inside left pole to 2-3. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Cacá Hermes came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Maxaranguape - FSCMZ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cacá Hermes couldn't finish the play. When Perivaldo Valle fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Perivaldo Valle hit a great ball. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
