In the 12th minute, Egon Åkerström got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Gilberto Guadamuz fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PUNTARENAS F.C's protests and gave Gilberto Guadamuz a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, PUNTARENAS F.C's Gilberto Guadamuz got a free kick in the 14th minute. Kennet Åhlberg didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gilberto Guadamuz went, in the 16th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. A collision led to PUNTARENAS F.C getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Wilmer Villareal hit a great ball. After some careless play in the PUNTARENAS F.C defense, Evert Lindberg kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Efrain Arnaez. The PUNTARENAS F.C fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Efrain Arnaez should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olger Porras in the 29th minute of play forced IFK Kik's goalkeeper Kennet Åhlberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 32nd minute Nils-Åke Kruuse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Efrain Arnaez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

PUNTARENAS F.C's Bryan Garita was substituted for Wilmer Villareal. In the 54th minute, IFK Kik's Rikard Wik seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rikard Wik the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of IFK Kik protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rikard Wik had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch.
