In the 8th minute Gildo de Carvalho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilberto Rossi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the game, Hugo de Queiroz recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gilberto Rossi. Hugo de Queiroz showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Nova Venécia-ES's zone, Olavo Paiva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Olavo de Sousa came out of the goal and Olavo Paiva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rafinha Goiano was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 15 minutes into the match. After 18 minutes, Egídio Antunes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Carrossel Caipira and the Nova Venécia-ES players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 18th minute, Egídio Antunes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A collision led to Carrossel Caipira getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Gabriel Antunes hit a great ball. Gilberto Rossi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luís Guilherme de Mendonça in the 20th minute. Olavo de Sousa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Olívio Sanches, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 24 minutes into the match, Nova Venécia-ES's goal looked a bit too open when Olívio Sanches came free, but Olavo de Sousa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27th minute, Olavo Paiva made a precise shot to the right of Olavo de Sousa. Nova Venécia-ES's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. 32 minutes into the game, Elias Gonçalves was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nova Venécia-ES's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carrossel Caipira the free kick. In the 32nd minute, Elias Gonçalves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 36th minute, Tostão da Fonseca ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Olavo de Sousa was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. Gildo de Carvalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Gilberto Rossi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Olavo de Sousa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Olavo Paiva in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hugo de Queiroz was the one to do the kick off. Wilton Paes might have been able to make a better finish in the 52nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gilberto Rossi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wilton Paes ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 54th match minute, Carrossel Caipira was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Olívio Sanches to maneuver through the defense. 55 minutes into the match, Nova Venécia-ES's Hugo de Queiroz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gilberto Rossi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Nova Venécia-ES getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Luís Guilherme de Mendonça hit a great ball. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Nova Venécia-ES's goalkeeper Olavo de Sousa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Nova Venécia-ES's Wilton Paes got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gildo de Carvalho kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. The supporters of Nova Venécia-ES booed when Carrossel Caipira was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Olívio Sanches didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olívio Sanches in the 90th minute of play forced Nova Venécia-ES's goalkeeper Olavo de Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Nova Venécia-ES's Gildo de Carvalho got a free kick in the 91st minute. The Carrossel Caipira supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Carrossel Caipira would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
