With an all-out effort, Fågelmara IK's Gheorghe Vărzaru threw himself towards the right post 7 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Filiph Forssberg, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 9 minutes into the match, FC Buzău's goal looked a bit too open when Krister Lundström came free, but Gheorghe Vărzaru reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, Karl-Ove Kullgren had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gheorghe Vărzaru. FC Buzău's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Karl-Ove Kullgren was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. In the 16th minute Albert Andrieșanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John Granberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Narcis Săndulescu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but John Granberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. A collision led to FC Buzău getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Albert Andrieșanu hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Albert Andrieșanu in the 27th minute of play forced Fågelmara IK's goalkeeper John Granberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 31st minute, Teodor Pârcălab hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gelu Chivu during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 36th match minute, FC Buzău was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gelu Chivu to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Fågelmara IK's Henrik Hedenskog slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gheorghe Vărzaru. That made the score 2-0 after 45 minutes of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Krister Lundström to make the kick off. After some careless play in the FC Buzău defense, Henrik Hedenskog kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gheorghe Vărzaru. The FC Buzău fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gheorghe Vărzaru should have stopped the shot. After 61 played minutes Fågelmara IK got a freekick which was hit by Esbjörn Bergstedt. Sorin Zâncă could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 63rd minute of the match, but John Granberg made a huge save. Costel Dorineanu kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. With a little luck, Fågelmara IK's John Granberg got control of the ball when Costel Dorineanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Fågelmara IK booed when FC Buzău was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Grigore Hulubei didn't get a good kick on the ball.
