ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's Xabel Beloki played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Pană in the 30th minute of play. When Sebastian Pană came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the DINAMO PLOIESTI fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sebastian Pană couldn't finish the play. When Vigil Ruiz fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's protests and gave Vigil Ruiz a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's Vigil Ruiz got a free kick in the 39th minute. With a little luck, DINAMO PLOIESTI's Gelu Galușcă got control of the ball when Burni Zapico tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's zone, Valeriu Goma stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Xabel Beloki came out of the goal and Valeriu Goma tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Gavril Donici lost his temper 54 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 53rd minute of the game. One of DINAMO PLOIESTI:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO:s goal. The referee gave ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO a penalty, 55 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Mané Aguado, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of DINAMO PLOIESTI's Gelu Galușcă. 1-0. Gelu Galușcă took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Claudio Diaz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Calistrat Pană hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. In the 61st minute Estefan Hernandez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gelu Galușcă saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of DINAMO PLOIESTI booed when ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lorencio Bastida didn't get a good kick on the ball. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
