With a couple of smart ball manuevers José Vítor Rodrigues in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Olivier Kahn saved Lemel SV from getting behind. The supporters of Independente FC booed when Lemel SV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sjoerd Bosschaart didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 9 minutes, Gilberto Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Independente FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilberto Gonçalves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, José Vítor Rodrigues managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independente FC's supporters rose to their feet, but José Vítor Rodrigues was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Olivier Kahn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Olivier Kahn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Inácio das Neves in the 21st minute of the match. Zé Carlos de Azevedos short, quick shot in the 22ndth minute got Olivier Kahn to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bastiaan Bruintjes during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Lemel SV's Bastiaan Bruintjes got a free kick in the 25th minute. When Simon Swart fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lemel SV's protests and gave Simon Swart a yellow card for diving instead. Simon Swart hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Olivier Kahn came out of the goal and Benedito Trancoso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 33 minutes of play, Independente FC's Zé Carlos de Azevedo made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Olivier Kahn was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 36th minute, Barry Geurtsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Zé Carlos de Azevedo in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olivier Kahn prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Dirk Jan Dowie's late challenge caught a Independente FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dirk Jan Dowie helped the player get up and apologised. José Vítor Rodriguess short, quick shot in the 43rdth minute got Olivier Kahn to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Olivier Kahn made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when José Vítor Rodrigues sent off a good shot on target. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zé Carlos de Azevedo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 54 minutes of play, Independente FC's José Vítor Rodrigues made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Olivier Kahn was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pieter den Hartog during the 58th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Zé Carlos de Azevedo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 61 minutes into the match, Lemel SV's goal looked a bit too open when Zé Carlos de Azevedo came free, but Olivier Kahn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pieter den Hartog hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Olivier Kahn stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zé Carlos de Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. Pieter den Hartog kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Zé Carlos de Azevedo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Olivier Kahn was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. 68 minutes into the game, Zé Carlos de Azevedo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Olivier Kahn made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. The Independente FC fans' excitement grew in the 89th match minute when Independente FC's José Vítor Rodrigues looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 6-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Nestor Quintal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gabriele Batistuta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Independente FC fully deserved thier win.
