After 51 minutes of play Proteu's Murilo Ferreira was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Bernardinho Corrêa took the ball and in the 91 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Antônio Ferreira. Antônio Ferreira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Humberto Andrade in the 94th minute of play forced Proteu's goalkeeper Dida Mazza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Proteu had won after a very even match.
