If Nando Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Laerte da Silveira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Santos Romano's shot from short distance in the 42nd minute. When the match clock showed 43 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Santos Romano sped through Olivedos's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Laerte da Silveira. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
