With an extended leg and a bit of luck Aloísio Vargas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 23 minutes into the game, one of Atlético Municipal:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 30 minutes into the match, Atlético Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Perivaldo Valle came free, but Basilio Munet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Basilio Munet showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Renatinho Linhares in the 32nd minute of the match. After having played for 36 minutes, Ongile Arainz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atlético Municipal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ongile Arainz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ongile Arainz might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aloísio Vargas. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ongile Arainz ran back to his position shaking his head. Perivaldo Valle struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Basilio Munet didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. Naldo Guedes struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Vicente Chaves to make the kick off. Atlético Municipal's Basilio Munet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vicente Chaves in the 52nd minute of play. But to his dismay, Ian Abreu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fully deserved thier win.
