Yuriy Babushkin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jacinto Rosio, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 13th minute, Teodosio Ascencio reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mickael Wuyts. The goal made the score 1-1. Rene Pierres was extremely unlucky when he, in the 18th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The Bahía é Carnaval fans' excitement grew in the 20th match minute when Bahía é Carnaval's Jacinto Rosio looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Mickael Wuyts stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Teodosio Ascencio's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. Yuriy Babushkin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jacinto Rosio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Bahía é Carnaval getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Emilio Lucado hit a great ball. 37 minutes into the game, Prospero Jakes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bahía é Carnaval's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Deportivo Messina the free kick. After 40 minutes, Erubiel Gaitan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bahía é Carnaval and the Deportivo Messina players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 42nd minute of the match, Hector Jerardo got a very nice opportunity to score, but Mickael Wuyts was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teodosio Ascencio in the 45th minute of play forced Bahía é Carnaval's goalkeeper Mickael Wuyts to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After taking down the ball on Deportivo Messina's corner Domingo Jakue fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Mickael Wuyts quite easily take care of the ball.
