The referee ignored Santos FC's protests and gave Tory Weeks a yellow card for diving instead. After 13 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Tory Weeks. If Lanny Gilmore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Anibal Cambiasso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 15th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lanny Gilmore in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Anibal Cambiasso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Anibal Cambiasso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lanny Gilmore, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Lanny Gilmore managed to get in a good position for a shot. Santos FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lanny Gilmore was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Anibal Cambiasso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Santos FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Warren Ruiz in the 25th minute. The corner ended in Warren Ruiz almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but BAIRES's Anibal Cambiasso did a great save. When Sebastian Cambiasso fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The supporters of Santos FC booed when BAIRES was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sebastian Cambiasso didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 29 minutes, Tyron Velasquez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Santos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tyron Velasquez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marciano Cambiasso to make the kick off. Santos FC's attentive Terence Nicholas managed to snatch the ball when Sebastian Cambiasso made a throw-in in the 51st minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in BAIRES's zone, Lanny Gilmore stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anibal Cambiasso came out of the goal and Lanny Gilmore tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Mike Richardson came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Santos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mike Richardson couldn't finish the play. Lanny Gilmore might have been able to make a better finish in the 60th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Anibal Cambiasso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sebastian Cambiasso made in the 61st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Santos FC's Terence Nicholas. Lanny Gilmore fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anibal Cambiasso having to interfere. 91 minutes into the game, Tyron Velasquez recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Anibal Cambiasso. Tyron Velasquez showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-1. Santos FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
