Villa Mitre's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GRÊMIO the free kick. A collision led to Villa Mitre getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Villa Mitre's defense didn't have a chance, in the 43rd minute, when Silvério Pinheiro scored to the left of an out of position Virgilio Sotil, making the score, 1-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for 史挺南 to strike the kick off in the second half. Virgilio Sotil took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Abel Pirani, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ramiro Jerano in the 57th minute of play. With a little luck, GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea got control of the ball when Aaron Guifre tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 95 played minutes GRÊMIO got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Gustavo Mazza. The Villa Mitre players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented GRÊMIO from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
