Yıldırım Yaman was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Fenerbahçe's Yıldırım Yaman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hannes Ström in the 35th minute of play. Yıldırım Yaman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gösta Granberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Carlos Valderrama kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Fenerbahçe defense, Hannes Ström kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Yıldırım Yaman. The Fenerbahçe fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Yıldırım Yaman should have stopped the shot. Gösta Granberg scored 1-12 in the 83rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Yıldırım Yaman, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Martin Hedlund took a quick shot and it went in 1-13 without a chance for Yıldırım Yaman to make any attempt to save it. Fenerbahçe's supporters rose to their feet, but Tuncer İribaş was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Olle Tunander breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 91st minute, Hannes Ström ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Yıldırım Yaman was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-14. 96 minutes into the match, Patrick Albom dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Yıldırım Yaman, 1-15. When the match was over VfL Wolfsburg could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fenerbahçe throughout the match.
