Spectators: 7506 (Terracing: 5630, Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 150) Toninho Tepedino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silverio Tuste in the 4th minute of the match. 5 minutes had been played when some careless play by Aracatiara EC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Elias Medeiros was slow to take the kick. During this time Newells Old Boys's players had a chance to rest. The crowd rose to their feet as Newells Old Boys's Silverio Tuste slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Toninho Tepedino. That made the score 1-0 after 7 minutes of play. In the 10th minute of the match, Cristian Blanco got a very nice opportunity to score, but Toninho Tepedino was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Newells Old Boys's Silverio Tuste got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silverio Tuste in the 13th minute of play forced Aracatiara EC's goalkeeper Toninho Tepedino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Silverio Tuste sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Silverio Tuste had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Aracatiara EC's Toninho Tepedino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silverio Tuste in the 16th minute of play. In the 17thth minute of the game Silverio Tuste who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Aracatiara EC's Toninho Tepedino was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Cristian Blanco could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Toninho Tepedino made a huge save. Silverio Tuste blasted a shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Toninho Tepedino having to make a save. Silverio Tuste sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 28 minutes into the match, Aracatiara EC's goal looked a bit too open when Silverio Tuste came free, but Toninho Tepedino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Cristian Blanco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newells Old Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Blanco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Toninho Tepedino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cido Pinheiro in the 36th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Serafino Jurdan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cristian Blanco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. André-Pierre Gignac hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Silverio Tuste made the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes Aracatiara EC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Elias Medeiros who took care of the corner kick. 57 minutes into the game, Newells Old Boys's Silverio Tuste nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Toninho Tepedino made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. 60 minutes into the match, Newells Old Boys's Cristian Blanco sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Toninho Tepedino narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Silverio Tuste put it in 4-0 from a short distance just to the right of Toninho Tepedino. Newells Old Boys's Cristian Calderon got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Silverio Tuste struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Toninho Tepedino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newells Old Boys. When Silverio Tuste came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Newells Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Silverio Tuste couldn't finish the play. If Silverio Tuste had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Toninho Tepedino stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Silverio Tuste's shot from short distance in the 77th minute. When the match clock showed 79 minutes, the score became 5-0 when Silverio Tuste sped through Aracatiara EC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Toninho Tepedino. Silverio Tuste fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Toninho Tepedino having to interfere. Newells Old Boys's Mingo Torrente was substituted for André-Pierre Gignac. In the 88th minute, Cristian Blanco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Toninho Tepedino was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. Newells Old Boys made a substitution. Cirilo Goren replaced Cristian Calderon. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Silverio Tuste in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Toninho Tepedino saved Aracatiara EC from getting behind. Silverio Tuste sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Newells Old Boys's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
