Semail Kılıçer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cássio Sá in the 8th minute of the match. 8 minutes into the game, Cássio Sá cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Semail Kılıçer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Dorival Vinhas might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Semail Kılıçer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dorival Vinhas ran back to his position shaking his head. Botinho FC's Hílton Magalhães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Osman Ali Sağlam in the 15th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lokman Sağlamtürk got free with Hílton Magalhães in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Botinho FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Lokman Sağlamtürk scored to the left of an out of position Hílton Magalhães, making the score, 1-1. In the 24th minute Dorival Vinhas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Semail Kılıçer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 25th minute, Babür Hamurcu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lokman Sağlamtürk kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Zézinho Bittencourt charged in rather forcefully in the 30th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zézinho Bittencourt the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Kenny N'Diaye's late challenge caught a Botinho FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kenny N'Diaye helped the player get up and apologised. In the 33rd match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kenny N'Diaye to maneuver through the defense. In the 35thth minute of the game Dorival Vinhas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newells Old Boys's Semail Kılıçer was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Bernardinho Penha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Semail Kılıçer having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Botinho FC's Nilson Ferraz got a free kick in the 43rd minute. If Lokman Sağlamtürk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

When Kenny N'Diaye came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Newells Old Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kenny N'Diaye couldn't finish the play. In the 52nd minute, Kenny N'Diaye ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hílton Magalhães was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Semail Kılıçer was out of position in the 57 minute of play, and Cássio Sá capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Cássio Sá really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. If Lokman Sağlamtürk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hílton Magalhães showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kenny N'Diaye, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. If Nihat İlsak had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Newells Old Boys's Alptuğ Behram got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Semail Kılıçer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cássio Sá, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. In the 90th minute, Nilson Ferraz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 91st minute, Nihat İlsak got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nilson Ferraz hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Newells Old Boys were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
