The supporters of The Tigers booed when Astillero del Guayas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paredes Campderros didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Astillero del Guayas's Cevallos Provencio got a free kick in the 16th minute. Walter Huarte took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benji Murray, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ulizes Sola in the 24th minute of play forced The Tigers's goalkeeper Tim Johnstone to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zarando Eguizabal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tim Johnstone having to interfere. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ionuț Mureșan was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Astillero del Guayas's goal looked a bit too open when Ionuț Mureșan came free, but Walter Huarte reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 52ndth minute of the game Ionuț Mureșan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Astillero del Guayas's Walter Huarte was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Astillero del Guayas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave The Tigers the free kick. If Zarando Eguizabal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Carl Atkins who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 95thth minute tested the skills of Walter Huarte when he managed to save the team from getting behind.
