But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Silvestre Etor couldn't finish the play. Maximino Martino's late challenge caught a ROSARIO CENTRAL F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Maximino Martino helped the player get up and apologised. In the 8th match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maximino Martino to maneuver through the defense. Leon Bartuelo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Silvestre Etor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Newells Old Boys defense, Silvestre Etor kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leon Bartuelo. The Newells Old Boys fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leon Bartuelo should have stopped the shot. Norberto Mero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mingo Torrente, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. In the 17th minute Nestor Tabb shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norberto Mero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 19 minutes into the game, Mingo Torrente cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Norberto Mero was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Norberto Mero didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mingo Torrente went, in the 25th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. When the match had gone on for 34 minutes, Silvestre Etor put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Leon Bartuelo. Silvestre Etor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Leon Bartuelo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mingo Torrente's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Norberto Mero read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Silvestre Etor to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nestor Tabb during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. ROSARIO CENTRAL F.C.'s Justino Distiratsu pulled a muscle in his back after 89 minutes and couldn't finish the game. ROSARIO CENTRAL F.C. made a substitution. Angelino Columbo replaced Justino Distiratsu. In the 91st minute, Nestor Tabb hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Newells Old Boys's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
