The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. David Vale's late challenge caught a OTTO FC - FSCMZ's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. David Vale helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Palestra do Interior's David Vale got a free kick in the 5th minute. Dudu Rossi came free with the goalkeeper in the 6th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Antônio Carlos Cavalcante could save by the left post. After 7 minutes of play, Palestra do Interior's Jhon Barcellos made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cacá Breckenfeld was left in no man's land by his defense there! Sandy Ogrocki charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Horácio Tande was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 23rd minute. OTTO FC - FSCMZ's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cacá Breckenfeld prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 28 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by William Luz. After 35th play minutes Serafim Simão shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Cacá Breckenfeld and just under the crossbar into goal. After 38 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by Hortêncio Mandrak. Cacá Breckenfeld took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Serafim Simão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cacá Breckenfeld made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Serafim Simão in the 45th minute of play. With a little luck, Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante got control of the ball when Caco de Lima tried to sneak it across the goal line. The OTTO FC - FSCMZ players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Palestra do Interior were winning 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Serafim Simão made a kick off. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Caco de Lima went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. After having played for 63 minutes, Serafim Simão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palestra do Interior's supporters crossed their fingers, but Serafim Simão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcelinho Soeiro in the 65th minute of play forced Palestra do Interior's goalkeeper Antônio Carlos Cavalcante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 66 minutes of play, Palestra do Interior's Serafim Simão made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cacá Breckenfeld was left in no man's land by his defense there! Cacá Breckenfeld stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Serafim Simão's shot from short distance in the 70th minute. When David Vale was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 72 minutes had been played. The supporters of OTTO FC - FSCMZ booed when Palestra do Interior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafim Simão didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Serafim Simão kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Cacá Breckenfeld. That made the score 1-4 in the 78 minute of play. Ivo Fantini hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Serafim Simão got free with Cacá Breckenfeld in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 89 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goal looked a bit too open when Caco de Lima came free, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Serafim Simão got free with Cacá Breckenfeld in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Chants of Palestra do Interior echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as OTTO FC - FSCMZ had held the ball for most of the match.
