Zé Carlos Gaúcho struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. Iurie Mutu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pendotiba. 13 minutes into the match, Academia Rio's goalkeeper Iurie Mutu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zé Carlos Gaúcho. In the 19th minute, Iulian Negulescu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Academia Rio fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Zé Carlos Gaúcho received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Iurie Mutu came out and tried to block the shot, but Zé Carlos Gaúcho slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 22nd minute. The supporters of Pendotiba booed when Academia Rio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. János Oltean didn't get a good kick on the ball. 33 minutes into the game, Zé Carlos Gaúcho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pendotiba's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Academia Rio the free kick. Zé Carlos Gaúcho hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Ramiro Dias made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paul Cucu in the 45th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Paulão Quirino stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ramiro Dias took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sever Vintilescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 61st minute, Zé Carlos Gaúcho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sever Vintilescu in the 65thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ramiro Dias, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When the match had gone on for 66 minutes, János Oltean took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Ramiro Dias to make any attempt to save it. 70 minutes into the game, János Oltean recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Ramiro Dias. János Oltean showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3. Paulão Quirino might have been able to make a better finish in the 74th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Iurie Mutu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paulão Quirino ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind Academia Rio's goalkeeper Iurie Mutu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sever Vintilescu hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by János Oltean in the 91st minute of play forced Pendotiba's goalkeeper Ramiro Dias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ramiro Dias made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Iulian Negulescu in the 92nd minute of play. 94 minutes into the match, Pendotiba's goal looked a bit too open when Sever Vintilescu came free, but Ramiro Dias reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Pendotiba fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Academia Rio were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
