Hector-Luis Conllas who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 59thth minute tested the skills of Iurie Mutu when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Academia Rio's Nicu Burtea got a free kick in the 65th minute. Ştefan Petru hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. 74 minutes into the game, Nae Martinescu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Academia Rio's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AFC United the free kick. After 75 played minutes Academia Rio got a freekick which was hit by Nicu Burtea. Iurie Mutu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teofilo Pardelas, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Academia Rio's zone, Donato Covillas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iurie Mutu came out of the goal and Donato Covillas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 88 minutes into the game, Lisandro Barrio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AFC United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Academia Rio the free kick. The supporters of Academia Rio booed when AFC United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lisandro Barrio didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 94th match minute, AFC United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lisandro Barrio to maneuver through the defense. Pedro Torrens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sever Vintilescu in the 96th minute of the match. When the final whistle sounded AFC United left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Academia Rio.
