Lemel SV's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palestra do Interior the free kick. After a rather tough play, Lemel SV's Dirk Jan Dowie got a free kick in the 3rd minute. 4 minutes into the match, Lemel SV's goalkeeper Olivier Kahn had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Serafim Simão. 4 minutes into the game, Serafim Simão recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Olivier Kahn. Serafim Simão showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Hans Degeling kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Palestra do Interior's Jhon Barcellos shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 7th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Olivier Kahn but with some difficulty. 12 minutes into the match, Norberto Passos dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Olivier Kahn, 2-0. 26 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goal looked a bit too open when Dirk Jan Dowie came free, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 29 played minutes Lemel SV got a freekick which was hit by Dirk Jan Dowie. Dries Teunisse kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 34th minute, Jhon Barcellos reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Olivier Kahn. The goal made the score 3-0. Norberto Passos struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Olivier Kahn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palestra do Interior. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Dirk Jan Dowie to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 50th minute, Dirk Jan Dowie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 54 minutes into the match, Lemel SV's goal looked a bit too open when Serafim Simão came free, but Olivier Kahn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Norberto Passos in the 56th minute of play forced Lemel SV's goalkeeper Olivier Kahn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Palestra do Interior's Serafim Simão in the 63rd minute got a chance for a shot 63rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Lemel SV's goalie prevented a goal. In the 65th minute, Dirk Jan Dowie got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Palestra do Interior's Hortêncio Mandrak was substituted for David Vale. 71 minutes into the match, Serafim Simão notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Lemel SV's Olivier Kahn. Olivier Kahn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Olivier Kahn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jhon Barcellos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lemel SV's Olivier Kahn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jhon Barcellos in the 78th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jhon Barcellos in the 83rd minute of play forced Lemel SV's goalkeeper Olivier Kahn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Serafim Simão's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Olivier Kahn was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. Olivier Kahn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dedé Mazer in the 93rd minute of play. Palestra do Interior's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
