But to his dismay, Hélio Granja quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. In the 35th minute Fabrício Gonçalves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Régis Pombal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Régis Pombal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nuno Candeias, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. 47 minutes into the game, Nuno Candeias cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Régis Pombal was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 2-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hélio Granja to make the kick off. 58 minutes into the match, Hélio Granja dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Régis Pombal, 2-4. After some careless play in the Grêmio Meia Praia defense, Alfredo Osório kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Régis Pombal. Dimas Camargo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nuno Candeias came free with the goalkeeper in the 95th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Régis Pombal could save by the left post.
