After a rather tough play, Santos FC's Benito Hyde got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Rusty Little took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Milton Giménez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Abuba Akotonon FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Milton Giménez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Cristofol's late challenge caught a Santos FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Santos FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Milton Giménez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Rusty Little showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fulgencio Shepherd, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Daniel Cristofol sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 76 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Jamar Maxwell. In the 78th minute Jamar Burton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benicio Txeru saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
