After a defensive mix-up in Sydney FC's zone, Bruninho Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Florian Guderian came out of the goal and Bruninho Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 13th minute, Edgard Arósio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Pierre Möhn hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Sydney FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when David Freitas scored to the left of an out of position Florian Guderian, making the score, 1-0. Florian Guderian made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felipe Queiroz in the 24th minute. Sydney FC's Florian Guderian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Freitas in the 33rd minute of play. Sílvio Zonta came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by Sydney FC's Pierre Möhn. But to his dismay, Pierre Möhn quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 40th match minute, TAQUARI FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dito de Toledo to maneuver through the defense. After 42 played minutes, Sydney FC's Peter Heidemann shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Sílvio Zonta came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sydney FC reached it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Carlos Fernando Ramalho during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Sydney FC booed when TAQUARI FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Fernando Ramalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bruninho Silva might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Florian Guderian. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bruninho Silva ran back to his position shaking his head. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Kees Plappert made the kick off in the second half. Florian Guderian showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bruninho Silva in the 51st minute of the match. Jano Motta kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. In the 72nd match minute, Sydney FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gabriel Michel to maneuver through the defense. Florian Guderian showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felipe Queiroz in the 75th minute of the match. Florian Guderian made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruninho Silva in the 82nd minute of play. After some careless play in the TAQUARI FC defense, Gabriel Michel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sílvio Zonta. The TAQUARI FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sílvio Zonta should have stopped the shot. The supporters of Sydney FC booed when TAQUARI FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Freitas didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Harald Inger hit a great ball. Bruninho Silva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Florian Guderian tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Sydney FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
