The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 18 minutes into the match, Monks in Robes's goal looked a bit too open when Octavian Basten came free, but Bøje Dyssen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th minute, Axel Ree ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Uwe Ziege was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 25th minute Octavian Basten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bøje Dyssen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Monks in Robes's Axel Ree in the 27th minute got a chance for a shot 27th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalie prevented a goal. Bøje Dyssen didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Octavian Basten went, in the 33rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Bøje Dyssen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mesut Özil, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. 40 minutes into the game, Hakem Al Khames threw the ball into play from the sideline. Monks in Robes's Nestor Solera quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 44 minutes into the game, Axel Ree recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Uwe Ziege. Axel Ree showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-1. When Rot-Weiss-Essen's Octavian Basten in the 47th minute got a chance for a shot 47th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Monks in Robes's goalie prevented a goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Octavian Basten to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Mesut Özil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bøje Dyssen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Axel Ree's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Uwe Ziege read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Ree in the 56th minute of play forced Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 57th minute, Axel Ree got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Albinus Alking struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Uwe Ziege didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Monks in Robes. With a little luck, Monks in Robes's Bøje Dyssen got control of the ball when Octavian Basten tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 64th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marco-Antonio van Basten to maneuver through the defense. Uwe Ziege showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Ree in the 65th minute of the match. Uwe Ziege didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Axel Ree went, in the 65th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fidel Havier ran over to the corner to take the kick. It was a well-played corner which Albinus Alking managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 76th minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Hugo Haupt ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Bøje Dyssen. Bøje Dyssen yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-2. In the 81st minute, Axel Ree left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Monks in Robes fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-2. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Marco-Antonio van Basten got a free kick in the 85th minute. Hugo Haupt took the ball and in the 88 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bøje Dyssen. Bøje Dyssen dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-3. Hugo Haupt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Bøje Dyssen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Axel Ree recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Axel Ree sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Monks in Robes were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Rot-Weiss-Essen for a fine match.
