When Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Galatasaray fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Åmål IF getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Sune Stenkvist hit a great ball. 31 minutes into the match, Åmål IF's goal looked a bit too open when Gaffar Eyüpoğlu came free, but Kurt Ahlbom reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Åmål IF's Kurt Ahlbom played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan in the 35th minute of play. If Çelikan Tümerdem had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Kenneth Hellström took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Gazanfer Sayın. Galatasaray's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The referee ignored Galatasaray's protests and gave Çelikan Tümerdem a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Åmål IF booed when Galatasaray was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Çelikan Tümerdem didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mattias Engman might have been able to make a better finish in the 60th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gazanfer Sayın. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mattias Engman ran back to his position shaking his head. Isaac Ekelund's late challenge caught a Galatasaray's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Isaac Ekelund helped the player get up and apologised. Isaac Ekelund kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. With his leg Kurt Ahlbom managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when Galatasaray's Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ertuğrul Rüştü was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 79 minutes into the match. In the 79th minute, one of Galatasaray:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Galatasaray. In the 82nd minute there was a penalty for Åmål IF. Kenneth Hellström stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Gazanfer Sayın. 4-1. Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan might have been able to make a better finish in the 98th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Kurt Ahlbom. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bayındır Mehmet Gökdoğan ran back to his position shaking his head. Galatasaray's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
