The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Şakir Aytolun during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 12 played minutes eskilspor got a freekick which was hit by Şakir Aytolun. Kurt Ahlbom made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fatih Uzbay in the 15th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yıldıray Yalçıner in the 17th minute of play forced Åmål IF's goalkeeper Kurt Ahlbom to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fatih Uzbay got free with Kurt Ahlbom in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Åmål IF's Kurt Ahlbom proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Åmål IF from getting a goal against them. 26 minutes into the game, Yıldıray Yalçıner recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Kurt Ahlbom. Yıldıray Yalçıner showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. eskilspor's Tahsin Koçyiğit played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mattias Engman in the 31st minute of play. Tahsin Koçyiğit made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isaac Ekelund in the 38th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in eskilspor's zone, Mattias Engman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tahsin Koçyiğit came out of the goal and Mattias Engman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 44th minute Mattias Mellberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tahsin Koçyiğit saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Åmål IF's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave eskilspor the free kick. Sune Stenkvist hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Fatih Uzbay blasted a shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kurt Ahlbom having to make a save. Mattias Mellberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
