FC MCM's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adrian Isbășoiu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 33rd minute of the match Calenzano got a corner. FC MCM's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Antonello Di Toma ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Antonello Di Toma got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Călin Prunaru quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Ruud van Nistelrooij took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Călin Prunaru. Călin Prunaru dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. If Ruud van Nistelrooij had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. FC MCM's Călin Prunaru played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Federico Tedeschi in the 44th minute of play. After the first half Calenzano were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Viktor Axelsson made a kick off. Călin Prunaru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ruud van Nistelrooij in the 53rd minute of play. Calenzano's Arturo Di Matteo was substituted for Ruud van Nistelrooij. In the 60th minute Arturo Di Matteo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Călin Prunaru saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC MCM's goalkeeper Călin Prunaru, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Donato Balestra came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by FC MCM's Cătălin Agulescu. But to his dismay, Cătălin Agulescu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. FC MCM's Radomil Redisz was substituted for Cătălin Agulescu. FC MCM made a substitution. Elodio Ghinescu replaced Daniel Ciolofan. Călin Prunaru made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arturo Di Matteo in the 72nd minute of play. Donato Balestra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Radomil Redisz in the 76th minute of play. Comunardo Chizzo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Călin Prunaru having to interfere. Călin Prunaru made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arturo Di Matteo in the 79th minute. Calenzano's Donato Balestra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Isbășoiu in the 84th minute of play. After taking down the ball on Calenzano's corner Antonello Di Toma fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Călin Prunaru quite easily take care of the ball.

The supporters of Calenzano booed when FC MCM was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 101 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavril Mangra didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 103rd minute Arturo Di Matteo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Călin Prunaru saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Donato Balestra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vali Cârnu, who was totally free with the ball in the 105th minute. In the last second Donato Balestra throw himself and got hold of the ball when Vali Cârnu in the 105thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. In the 107th minute Arturo Di Matteo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Călin Prunaru saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 108th minute, Arturo Di Matteo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Calenzano's supporters rose to their feet, but Arturo Di Matteo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Călin Prunaru breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Radomil Redisz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 111th minute of the match, but Donato Balestra made a huge save. In the 111th match minute, FC MCM was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mugur Jupâneanu to maneuver through the defense. When the referee signaled the end of the first half of extra-time the score was 1-1. The players had a chance to rest for a moment before the second half.

Everyone could clearly see that both FC MCM's and Calenzano's players was becoming tired in their legs when FC MCM's Vali Cârnu did the kick off in the second half of the overtime. FC MCM's Călin Prunaru proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 118th minute of the match, managed to save FC MCM from getting a goal against them. Arturo Di Matteo might have been able to make a better finish in the 121st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Călin Prunaru. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arturo Di Matteo ran back to his position shaking his head. Călin Prunaru made a fantastic save in the 121st minute, when Arturo Di Matteo sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arturo Di Matteo got free with Călin Prunaru in the 122nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A hard shot 122 in the game by Arturo Di Matteo from a close distance when the talented Călin Prunaru managed to make a qualified save. FC MCM's players were relieved. In the 127th minute Arturo Di Matteo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Călin Prunaru saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Călin Prunaru was out of position in the 130 minute of play, and Arturo Di Matteo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Arturo Di Matteo really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. The Calenzano players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
