With a little luck, RWDM's Tony Vandenberge got control of the ball when Emil Trulsson tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Robbin van Persie in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kurt Ekberg saved IFK Gladdarna from getting behind. Kurt Ekberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robbin van Persie in the 29th minute of the match. Tony Vandenberge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emil Trulsson in the 32nd minute of play. Kurt Ekberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lennert Van der Vloedt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robbin van Persie in the 42nd minute of play forced IFK Gladdarna's goalkeeper Kurt Ekberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tony Vandenberge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cam Bahč in the 43rd minute of play. Robbin van Persie hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Eugeniusz Cichewski's late challenge caught a RWDM's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eugeniusz Cichewski helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to IFK Gladdarna getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Eugeniusz Cichewski hit a great ball. IFK Gladdarna's Jakob Koch was substituted for Eugeniusz Cichewski. In the 48th match minute, IFK Gladdarna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eugeniusz Cichewski to maneuver through the defense.

RWDM's Tony Vandenberge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emil Trulsson in the 53rd minute of play. Kurt Ekberg made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robbin van Persie in the 58th minute. 60 minutes into the match, Emil Trulsson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tony Vandenberge. RWDM's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Emil Trulsson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. IFK Gladdarna's Martin Sundin was substituted for Emil Trulsson. In the 66th minute Robbin van Persie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kurt Ekberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 67 minutes, Jakob Koch mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the IFK Gladdarna and the RWDM players grew even worse after the yellow card.
