Nadir Ahmed took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zico Zellier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Espérance Algérienne's Nadir Ahmed played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thierry Henry in the 9th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Espérance Algérienne's Khaled Belkheir sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nery Pumpido narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 14 minutes GuateFortín's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Dylan Bruel who took care of the corner kick. 15 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Djamil Ayad came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When GuateFortín's Zico Zellier in the 17th minute got a chance for a shot 17th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Espérance Algérienne's goalie prevented a goal. 19 minutes into the match, Espérance Algérienne's goal looked a bit too open when Angel Alvarenga came free, but Nadir Ahmed reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nadir Ahmed prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Espérance Algérienne's zone, Zico Zellier stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nadir Ahmed came out of the goal and Zico Zellier tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Espérance Algérienne's Nadir Ahmed got control of the ball when Sven-Edvin Jansson tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sven-Edvin Jansson got free with Nadir Ahmed in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sven-Edvin Jansson who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 30thth minute tested the skills of Nadir Ahmed when he managed to save the team from getting behind. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nadir Ahmed saved Espérance Algérienne from getting behind. GuateFortín were awarded a corner in the 33th minute after Espérance Algérienne's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Angel Alvarenga took the corner. After 41 played minutes Sven-Edvin Jansson rounded Espérance Algérienne's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-0. After 43 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Angel Alvarenga. Nazir Hadjadj took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 44th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nery Pumpido. GuateFortín's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Thierry Henry to make the kick off. If Zico Zellier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nadir Ahmed showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thierry Henry, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thierry Henry in the 57th minute of play forced Espérance Algérienne's goalkeeper Nadir Ahmed to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thierry Henry sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 59th minute Thierry Henry shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nadir Ahmed saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. GuateFortín made a substitution. Chabane Sandjak could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Nery Pumpido made a huge save. Nery Pumpido stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chabane Sandjak's shot from short distance in the 68th minute. 69 minutes into the match, Mario Gomez had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nadir Ahmed. Espérance Algérienne's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mario Gomez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. In the 73rd match minute, GuateFortín was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Angel Alvarenga to maneuver through the defense.
