Idacio Ballejos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Fergus Fairbairn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Idacio Ballejos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Mayo booed when Rangers FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Darius Bontine didn't get a good kick on the ball. Idacio Ballejos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Idacio Ballejos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 17 minutes of play, Mayo's Idacio Ballejos made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fergus Fairbairn was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Mayo's Idacio Ballejos in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Rangers FC's goalie prevented a goal. Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Idacio Ballejos in the 23rd minute of play. When Logan McCubbin fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rangers FC's protests and gave Logan McCubbin a yellow card for diving instead. Mayo made a substitution. Bayhan Uzlet replaced Romulo Loiola. A collision led to Rangers FC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Logan McCubbin hit a great ball. Idacio Ballejos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fergus Fairbairn stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Idacio Ballejos's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. 31 minutes into the match, Rangers FC's goalkeeper Fergus Fairbairn had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Steve Oliver. Fergus Fairbairn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Idacio Ballejos in the 36th minute of play. Fergus Fairbairn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Idacio Ballejos blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fergus Fairbairn having to make a save. Fergus Fairbairn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Idacio Ballejos in the 57th minute of play. After 58 played minutes Mayo got a freekick which was hit by Steve Oliver. Idacio Ballejos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tim Charles made in the 63rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Mayo's Johnnie Osbourn. Idacio Ballejos might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fergus Fairbairn. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Idacio Ballejos ran back to his position shaking his head. 67 minutes into the match, Steve Oliver notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn. Fergus Fairbairn was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Idacio Ballejos took the ball and in the 70 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fergus Fairbairn. Fergus Fairbairn dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. Mayo's Patrick Robins was substituted for Will Porter. Fergus Fairbairn came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by Mayo's Idacio Ballejos. But to his dismay, Idacio Ballejos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 7-0. If Danny Gilespie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Raymond Johnston's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcus Deacon was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. Fergus Fairbairn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Steve Oliver in the 87th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Idacio Ballejos in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fergus Fairbairn saved Rangers FC from getting behind. Bradley Carr hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. There was no doubt that Mayo were the better team. Mayo's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
