Inter de Guayaquil FC were awarded a corner in the 12th minute after Real Unión CF's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Humberto Barragan took the corner. 14 minutes into the game, Jakub Ziombkowski cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Wilfredo Heli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jakub Ziombkowski's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Wilfredo Heli firmly grabbed it by the left post. Wilfredo Heli made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Éric Cantona sent off a good shot on target. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Éric Cantona in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Wilfredo Heli saved Real Unión CF from getting behind. Sebastian Hellkvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Liu Cheng Kang, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Inter de Guayaquil FC's Éric Cantona got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jörn Svartengren made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Inter de Guayaquil FC's Xavier Zanetti got a free kick in the 53rd minute. 56 minutes into the game, Jörn Svartengren cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Wilfredo Heli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Wilfredo Heli came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Inter de Guayaquil FC's Jörn Svartengren. But to his dismay, Jörn Svartengren quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. The audience was convinced that Jörn Svartengren's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilfredo Heli was relentless in the 65th minute of the game. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind Real Unión CF's goalkeeper Wilfredo Heli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jörn Svartengren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 74thth minute of the game Jörn Svartengren who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Real Unión CF's Wilfredo Heli was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 76th minute, Jörn Svartengren made a precise shot to the right of Wilfredo Heli. Real Unión CF's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. After a defensive mix-up in Real Unión CF's zone, Lorenzo Acutain stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilfredo Heli came out of the goal and Lorenzo Acutain tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 87 minutes into the match, Inter de Guayaquil FC's goal looked a bit too open when Liu Cheng Kang came free, but Sebastian Hellkvist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The attack was good, but when Liu Cheng Kang in the 88th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jörn Svartengren in the 89th minute of play forced Real Unión CF's goalkeeper Wilfredo Heli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mateusz Giertych hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Lorenzo Acutain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilfredo Heli having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Inter de Guayaquil FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Real Unión CF had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
