Harold Willson kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Jaime França kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jânio Furlan. That made the score 1-0 in the 17 minute of play. Jânio Furlan made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Carlos Alberto Soares sent off a good shot on target. After 32 played minutes Guará FC got a freekick which was hit by Gustavo Nascimento. Jânio Furlan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 33rd minute of the match. Erlingur Haaland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reko Nybacka having to interfere. Carlos Alberto Soares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Jânio Furlan made a huge save. 42 minutes in the game, Carlos Alberto Soares fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Jânio Furlan having to interfere. Guará FC's Erlingur Haaland got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zé Pedro Baiano to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Erlingur Haaland ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Reko Nybacka was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. After a rather tough play, Catugi FC's Vicente Valladares got a free kick in the 61st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erlingur Haaland in the 66th minute of play forced Catugi FC's goalkeeper Reko Nybacka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lachezar Dzhevov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Reko Nybacka read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 71st minute of play. Reko Nybacka took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lachezar Dzhevov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jânio Furlan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Soares in the 79th minute of the match. After 82 minutes of play, Catugi FC's Carlos Alberto Soares made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jânio Furlan was left in no man's land by his defense there! Walmir Pombal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Jânio Furlan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronaldão Paulista's late challenge caught a Catugi FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ronaldão Paulista helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Catugi FC booed when Guará FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronaldão Paulista didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee ended the match the Catugi FC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
