An unexpectedly hard shot by Miroslav Pernický in the 11th minute of play forced VN Keleler's goalkeeper Velimir Popchev to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Fred Davus's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Velimir Popchev was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Cleto Peyo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Doychin Konsulov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cleto Peyo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stuart Byman in the 41st minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
