In the 17th minute Anders Christiansen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Håkan Söderberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Tuncay Cansever had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Håkan Söderberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mugur Bejenaru in the 21st minute of play. When Tuncay Cansever came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Degerfors IF fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tuncay Cansever couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Tuncay Cansever took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Paulo Renato Dionísio to make any attempt to save it. Kåre Albom made in the 31st minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Tomas Nyström however managed to control. Degerfors IF's Håkan Söderberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anders Christiansen in the 32nd minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mugur Bejenaru made a kick off. Håkan Söderberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mugur Bejenaru's shot from short distance in the 51st minute. Håkan Söderberg made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Anders Christiansen sent off a good shot on target. Degerfors IF's Artemio Maore managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Egil Åhman in the 59 minute of the game. Åke Fors struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Paulo Renato Dionísio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Degerfors IF. Åke Fors scored 2-0 in the 68th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Paulo Renato Dionísio, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Åke Fors sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mugur Bejenaru in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Håkan Söderberg saved Degerfors IF from getting behind. Paulo Renato Dionísio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Åke Fors, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. 86 minutes into the match, Ekedalen SK's Mugur Bejenaru sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Håkan Söderberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 88 minutes into the match, Ekedalen SK's goal looked a bit too open when Åke Fors came free, but Paulo Renato Dionísio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Degerfors IF's Philip Kihlman got a free kick in the 90th minute. Åke Fors sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. An unexpectedly hard shot by Åke Fors in the 93rd minute of play forced Ekedalen SK's goalkeeper Paulo Renato Dionísio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Håkan Söderberg made an important save on a dangerous shot by Anders Christiansen in the 94th minute. The Degerfors IF players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
