The audience thought a goal was coming when Cesar Ganix got free with Cecil Balla in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joerg-Uwe Thau in the 15th minute of play forced Telén's goalkeeper Fabian Theiss to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Ciriaco Federigo fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Telén's protests and gave Ciriaco Federigo a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of RB Leipzig booed when Telén was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ciriaco Federigo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Remigio Jayvier struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Cecil Balla didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Telén. 19 minutes into the match, RB Leipzig's goalkeeper Cecil Balla had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cesar Ganix. 26 minutes into the game, RB Leipzig's Joerg-Uwe Thau nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fabian Theiss made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. In the 31st minute Şimşek Kako shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabian Theiss saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 32 minutes into the match, RB Leipzig's goalkeeper Cecil Balla had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cesar Ganix. In the 37th minute, Joerg-Uwe Thau ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fabian Theiss was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Fabian Theiss made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joerg-Uwe Thau in the 42nd minute of play. The RB Leipzig fans' excitement grew in the 43rd match minute when RB Leipzig's Joerg-Uwe Thau looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 48th minute, César Talavera ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fabian Theiss was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joerg-Uwe Thau stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the game, Joerg-Uwe Thau lined in a short shot 1-5 behind a frustrated Fabian Theiss. Angel Lehior received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Cecil Balla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Telén's goalkeeper Fabian Theiss, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cesar Ganix during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joerg-Uwe Thau in the 69th minute of play forced Telén's goalkeeper Fabian Theiss to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joerg-Uwe Thau in the 71st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fabian Theiss saved Telén from getting behind. Fabian Theiss stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Joerg-Uwe Thau's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. 76 minutes into the game, Simon Drechsler cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-6. Fabian Theiss was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 80 minutes into the game, Róbson Moreira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Telén's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RB Leipzig the free kick. In the 81st minute, Róbson Moreira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joerg-Uwe Thau did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-7 to the left of a surprised Fabian Theiss 85 minutes into the match. 90 minutes into the match, Telén's goalkeeper Fabian Theiss had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zarando Ruis. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joerg-Uwe Thau in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fabian Theiss saved Telén from getting behind. César Talavera recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. RB Leipzig played a much better game than Telén and deserved their victory. The Telén players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
