Alberto Guimarães hit a great freekick 4 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Giru EC's Hamílton Couto tried to score from far away in the 5th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 6 minutes into the game, Válter Fontes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. S.C. Reis United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Giru EC the free kick. Válter Fontes hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. When Kléber Tande came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the Giru EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kléber Tande couldn't finish the play. Hugo Montenegro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Henrique Trigo in the 12th minute of the match. In the 13th minute, Alexandre Varela ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. João Paulo Urbano was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 17thth minute of the game Alexandre Varela who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but S.C. Reis United's João Paulo Urbano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Alexandre Varela had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 22 minutes, Alexandre Varela managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Giru EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alexandre Varela was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 24 minutes into the match, S.C. Reis United's goal looked a bit too open when Alexandre Varela came free, but João Paulo Urbano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. João Paulo Urbano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamílton Couto, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. João Paulo Urbano came out of the goal in the 26th minute to try and stop a shot by Giru EC's Alexandre Varela. But to his dismay, Alexandre Varela quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. In the 33rd minute, Henrique Trigo made a precise shot to the right of Hugo Montenegro. Giru EC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. With a little luck, Giru EC's Hugo Montenegro got control of the ball when Henrique Trigo tried to sneak it across the goal line. S.C. Reis United's João Paulo Urbano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hamílton Couto in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Natanael Maranhense's late challenge caught a Giru EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When Laerte Nóbrega fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Giru EC's protests and gave Laerte Nóbrega a yellow card for diving instead. Laerte Nóbrega kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, S.C. Reis United's Natanael Maranhense got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 58th minute, Giru EC's Alexandre Varela ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind João Paulo Urbano. João Paulo Urbano yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. When the match had gone on for 63 minutes, Hamílton Couto took a quick shot and it went in 1-4 without a chance for João Paulo Urbano to make any attempt to save it. Hugo Montenegro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Henrique Trigo in the 72nd minute of the match. Rafa Mello charged in rather forcefully in the 78th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rafa Mello the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Rafa Mello hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. In the 85th minute, Hamílton Couto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hugo Montenegro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Henrique Trigo in the 95th minute of play. The Giru EC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Giru EC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
