To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Wei Bing Ran stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kai Havertz's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. Garth Stockton blasted a shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wei Bing Ran having to make a save. In the 20th minute Gus Weir shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Frankfurter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wei Bing Ran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Garth Stockton, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. William Rigg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Kelvin Oldham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Frank Frankfurter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee felt a red card was in order, 43 minutes into the game, when Robert Holding put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 42nd minute of the game. One of England:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Real Chelsea:s goal. Frank Frankfurter had in the 45thth minute some difficulties stopping Gus Weir's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gus Weir was the one to do the kick off.
