But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Petter Skarkman couldn't finish the play. Donato Ali didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Petter Skarkman went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. 26 minutes into the match, Protegéerna's goal looked a bit too open when Mauro Bezerra came free, but Bolo Skjold reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mauro Bezerra could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Bolo Skjold made a huge save. 31 minutes into the game, Petter Skarkman cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Donato Ali was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Schuster's Donato Ali played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petter Skarkman in the 38th minute of play. Donato Ali made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Petter Skarkman in the 42nd minute of play. When Cosme Demesio fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Protegéerna's protests and gave Cosme Demesio a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Protegéerna getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Cosme Demesio hit a great ball. Bolo Skjold made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro Bezerra in the 44th minute of play. Paolo-César Maldini kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. In the 47th minute, Saul Piarres sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Protegéerna's Bolo Skjold didn't even have to move. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Petter Skarkman was the one to do the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Musko Cuevas in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bolo Skjold saved Protegéerna from getting behind. In the 56thth minute of the game Mauro Bezerra who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Protegéerna's Bolo Skjold was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Bolo Skjold showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Saul Piarres, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. 60 minutes had been played when some careless play by Protegéerna's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Saul Piarres was slow to take the kick. During this time Schuster's players had a chance to rest. The crowd rose to their feet as Petter Skarkman kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Donato Ali. That made the score 0-3 in the 64 minute of play. Schuster made a substitution. Enrico Pagliarini replaced Valer Stroici. Donato Ali made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guido Python in the 70th minute of play. Donato Ali made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ulrik Söderlund in the 76th minute. 78 minutes into the match, Schuster's goalkeeper Donato Ali had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Petter Skarkman. The supporters of Schuster booed when Protegéerna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ulrik Söderlund didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 82nd minute Fernando Morientes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bolo Skjold saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Donato Ali showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guido Python, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Schuster's Donato Ali proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Schuster from getting a goal against them. After 94 played minutes Protegéerna got a freekick which was hit by Ossi Eloranta. Bolo Skjold made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Morientes in the 95th minute of play.
