Baia Mare -MM-'s supporters rose to their feet, but Iosif Gurlui was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Evelio Antoniano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 9 minutes into the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zsigmond Pál narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 10th minute of the match Criciúma Esporte Clube got a corner. F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luiz Valadares ran over to the corner to take the kick. F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s Zsigmond Pál played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bieito Villaurreta in the 11th minute of play. Zsigmond Pál stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paulo Laurentzi's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. After a rather tough play, F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s Manuel Tărbac got a free kick in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by George Buzoianu in the 19th minute of play forced Criciúma Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Evelio Antoniano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 30th minute Iosif Gurlui shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evelio Antoniano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Evelio Antoniano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Iosif Gurlui in the 30th minute of the match. After 34 played minutes F.C. Baia Mare -MM- got a freekick which was hit by Pavel Dordea. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Paulo Laurentzi took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Zsigmond Pál to make any attempt to save it. In the 43rd minute of the match, Bieito Villaurreta tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Zsigmond Pál saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bieito Villaurreta to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Luiz Valadares was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Criciúma Esporte Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave F.C. Baia Mare -MM- the free kick. A collision led to Criciúma Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Luiz Valadares hit a great ball. In the 60th match minute, F.C. Baia Mare -MM- was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dragoş Balint to maneuver through the defense. Zsigmond Pál showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Laurentzi in the 64th minute of the match. 65 minutes had been played when some careless play by F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luiz Valadares was slow to take the kick. During this time Criciúma Esporte Clube's players had a chance to rest. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulo Laurentzi in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Zsigmond Pál prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 81 played minutes Criciúma Esporte Clube got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Valadares. Zsigmond Pál took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gaztea Regalado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 95 minutes into the match, F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Laurentzi came free, but Zsigmond Pál reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zsigmond Pál came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi. But to his dismay, Paulo Laurentzi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
