The Atalanta fans' excitement grew in the 4th match minute when Atalanta's Biagio Selvaggi looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 6 minutes, Robinho Paranaense mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Fronteiro and the Atalanta players grew even worse after the yellow card. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Biagio Selvaggi couldn't finish the play. 39 minutes into the game, Atalanta's Biagio Selvaggi nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Willian Dias made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ediberto de Moraes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cristiano Basso could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Willian Dias made a huge save. Fronteiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robinho Paranaense was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Atalanta played a much better game than Fronteiro and deserved their victory. The Fronteiro players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
