If Zhivko Kudev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luis Alberto Suárez might have been able to make a better finish in the 7th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gilbert Podolski. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Luis Alberto Suárez ran back to his position shaking his head. Dariusz Czciborek came out of the goal in the 9th minute to try and stop a shot by Pogoń Stawiszyn's Ryszard Pilipiec. But to his dismay, Ryszard Pilipiec quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After 13 played minutes Pogoń Stawiszyn got a freekick which was hit by Lech Gmoch. Gilbert Podolski stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luis Alberto Suárez's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Luis Alberto Suárez put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Gilbert Podolski. In the last second Dariusz Czciborek throw himself and got hold of the ball when Ryszard Pilipiec in the 27thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Mieszko Bartelak kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Birmingham City F.C.'s attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tzvetelin Kopoev in the 38th minute. The corner ended in Tzvetelin Kopoev almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Pogoń Stawiszyn's Gilbert Podolski did a great save. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luis Alberto Suárez to make the kick off. Luis Alberto Suárez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gilbert Podolski having to make a save. After 52 played minutes Pogoń Stawiszyn got a freekick which was hit by Mieszko Bartelak. Gilbert Podolski was out of position in the 54 minute of play, and Luis Alberto Suárez capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Luis Alberto Suárez really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. The supporters of Birmingham City F.C. booed when Pogoń Stawiszyn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kazimierz Dylla didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pogoń Stawiszyn's Gilbert Podolski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Pogoń Stawiszyn from getting a goal against them. Gilbert Podolski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Alberto Suárez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Peycho Zvezdanov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erland Boberg in the 71st minute of play forced Pogoń Stawiszyn's goalkeeper Gilbert Podolski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 74th play minutes Luis Alberto Suárez shot 1-3, a short shot which went by Gilbert Podolski and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 77th match minute, Pogoń Stawiszyn was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ryszard Pilipiec to maneuver through the defense. Luis Alberto Suárez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Gilbert Podolski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erland Boberg in the 82nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luis Alberto Suárez in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gilbert Podolski saved Pogoń Stawiszyn from getting behind. Gilbert Podolski had great luck who in the 85thth minute grab hold of the ball when Luis Alberto Suárez from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Birmingham City F.C. were awarded a corner in the 87th minute after Pogoń Stawiszyn's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Stayko Bobekov took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Erland Boberg heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. After 89 played minutes Luis Alberto Suárez rounded Pogoń Stawiszyn's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-4. Dariusz Czciborek took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ryszard Pilipiec, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Birmingham City F.C.'s players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
