José Sá made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diguinho Souza in the 17th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alexis Alexandris got free with Hílton Dias in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hílton Dias made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Walter Giardino sent off a good shot on target.
