Fernanco Peso started the match with the kick off. In the 7th minute Ismael Licerio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jon Iruegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. New York CitY CopS were awarded a corner in the 8th minute after Sporting Cristal's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Øssur í Lon Jacobsen took the corner. Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clay Regazzoni in the 13th minute of play. 19 minutes into the match, Clay Regazzoni notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas. Jon Iruegas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The crowd rose to their feet as Ismael Licerio kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jon Iruegas. That made the score 2-0 in the 22 minute of play. Silvano Portillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernanco Peso in the 25th minute of play. In the 26th minute Sporting Cristal were awarded a corner. Gertjan De Ryck went to the cornerflag to take it. Gertjan De Ryck made a great header on Sporting Cristal's corner, it was just that New York CitY CopS's Silvano Portillo managed to reach the ball for a save. The supporters of New York CitY CopS booed when Sporting Cristal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tobias Larsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Silvano Portillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernanco Peso in the 32nd minute of play. Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ismael Licerio in the 34th minute of play. Ismael Licerio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Jon Iruegas made a huge save. With a little luck, Sporting Cristal's Jon Iruegas got control of the ball when Ismael Licerio tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 44th minute Fernanco Peso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvano Portillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

New York CitY CopS's Americo Erlantz was substituted for Martin Janko. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ismael Licerio was the one to do the kick off. If Gertjan De Ryck had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jon Iruegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ismael Licerio in the 55th minute of play. In the 59th minute Ismael Licerio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jon Iruegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jon Iruegas came out of the goal in the 59th minute to try and stop a shot by New York CitY CopS's Ismael Licerio. But to his dismay, Ismael Licerio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. 66 minutes into the match, Sporting Cristal's goal looked a bit too open when Clay Regazzoni came free, but Jon Iruegas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 68th minute Fernanco Peso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvano Portillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 71 minutes New York CitY CopS's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gertjan De Ryck who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Hüseyin Turan Elçibey managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Sporting Cristal made a substitution. Frank Tassotti replaced Tobias Larsson. Silvano Portillo was a little too slow when Fernanco Peso got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 82nd minute. The score was now 3-1. In the 87th minute, Christian Luciano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jon Iruegas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicanor Porfirio in the 91st minute of the match. But to his dismay, Clay Regazzoni quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. New York CitY CopS had played much better football throughout.
