In the 6th match minute, Ballyvoneen Utd was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bragain Glen Crowe to maneuver through the defense. Rodolphe Boisard kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Keeghan Duggan in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Erwan Vetter saved Olympique Lyonnais from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Derry Glen Crowe got free with Erwan Vetter in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 24 minutes, Keeghan Duggan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ballyvoneen Utd's supporters crossed their fingers, but Keeghan Duggan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Keeghan Duggan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 32 minutes into the match, Ballyvoneen Utd's Keeghan Duggan sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Erwan Vetter narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 34 minutes, Johnny Deyres mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Olympique Lyonnais and the Ballyvoneen Utd players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Olympique Lyonnais getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Johnny Deyres hit a great ball. After 43rd play minutes Keeghan Duggan shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Erwan Vetter and just under the crossbar into goal. After 47 played minutes Ballyvoneen Utd got a freekick which was hit by Brenan McOliver. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rorke McBjarton during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Olympique Lyonnais booed when Ballyvoneen Utd was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rorke McBjarton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marius Baronnet could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Gil Todd made a huge save. 57 minutes into the match, Ballyvoneen Utd's goal looked a bit too open when Émilien Reboux came free, but Gil Todd reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ballyvoneen Utd booed when Olympique Lyonnais was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johnny Deyres didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 61 played minutes Ballyvoneen Utd got a freekick which was hit by Bragain Glen Crowe. Erwan Vetter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Keeghan Duggan, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Michel Houpert made in the 77th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Rodolphe Boisard. After a rather tough play, Olympique Lyonnais's Johnny Deyres got a free kick in the 78th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Émilien Reboux got free with Gil Todd in the 82nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rodolphe Boisard sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 87 minutes of play Olympique Lyonnais's Johnny Deyres was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 87th minute, Johnny Deyres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Ballyvoneen Utd were victorious despite being under pressure from Olympique Lyonnais for much of the match.
